On the way to the local pub for breakfast I thought this year we had crack it for the weather, a slight breezes and sunny and no frost which was different from the past 2 years where we endured the bitter cold and frost.
As Steve as already posted on the blog, the local pub did us proud with a great breakfast and the banter was first class. So with the draw done off to the venue, we’ll all but one, yes it was Dave Robbo, lost again but after a few directions over the phone he finally made it.
The weather was still on our side as we set up but when the “all in” sounded it was like a signal for the wind to start as well. Although it was still blue sky’s it was bitter for those pegged in the shade and after the first hours the clouds built up and it started raining on and off.
Looking around the pool it was disappointing to see that this was going to be hard as not many fish where being caught but the banter was still first class, we were given a update on the construction of the Langley International Airport & Railway from the “Langley Wizard” Alan Whitmore.
Lou Hughes and Steve Cox where reminiscing about their time times out in the jungle and the dessert.
Rob Cox was giving us his personal diagnosis of what was the problem with the “Blue Badge Brigade”
So although the fishing was poor the conversation was great.
By the time the final whistle went I think everyone breathed a shy of relief.
The match was won by Mark Watts with 21lb 8oz from peg 14 he caught 5 carp fishing meat just at the side of the reed bed and silvers just in front of him, (for those who don’t recognise the name Mark fished with us on the “Bob Vann” charity match early on in the season).
In second with 9lb 10oz came Steve Cox fishing peg 1, it could have been a different outcome if Steve had managed to tame a lump he hooked first put in, but all he was left with after the tussle was a straightened number 16 hook.
Third with 9lb was the other Cox, Rob fishing off peg 16 over the reeds, it was interesting to see how Rob presented his bait over the reeds but it worked, well done Rob.
In forth was Mr Rennie no not Ian but brother Paul with 6lb fishing peg 13, many thanks to Paul who travels down from the North every year to fish this match.
For the rest of us, we all managed to but a fish in the net but didn’t fell any need to trouble the scales man.

Although the overall match was won by Mark, in response to the shields sponsors’ request that the trophy is awarded to the top Exel A C member who fishes the match, the club trophy will be presented to Steve Cox as the top club member.
Once again thank you for your participation although the fishing was poor the crack was great.
