FIRST ONE TO JOHN MALE

John Male collected the Pat and Louise Memorial Trophy by winning our first contest of 2016 on a very disappointing Dudley No 2 Canal in Halesowen. All members were really looking forward to the opening match of the season and when you see eight dry nets that tells you all you really need to know. Having said all of that take nothing away from John Male who put together a mix of fish which pushed the scales to 3lb14oz for his victory. Fishing from peg 18 John caught fish from the start fishing the bread punch for the first time but after 2 hours the bits dried up and a change in bait did nothing to add to the net.
After a slow start from peg 44 Steve Cox found some action changing to big maggots which the Skimmers took a liking to and helped him to 2lb12oz to claim second spot. Steve fished the pole at 9 meters throughout the match and looked on cause to win the match until bites dried up in the final hour.
Back in the first Division this term Darren Bullock opened up his account for the season securing third place with 1lb5oz. Darren drew peg 42 next to Steve and used the waggler across the bay to landed plenty of small fish but unfortunately he could not find any bonus fish to increase his chances of pushing the leading two.
Not to be outdone by his brother, Peter Bullock collected a brown envelope for finishing in fourth but he will be disappointed with his 11 ounces total. Two members who fish the canal regularly fished in fifth and sixth Colin Parsonage and John King but they found the going tough on a disappointing day.
