THANKS TO EVERYONE
With the first heavy frost of the year it was no surprize that only 14 anglers took part in the second years running of the Exel Angling Club Charity Match. Regardless of the bitter cold weather optimism was high with the thought of some fish being caught, but early in the match it soon became apparent the optimism was dwindling away as very few fish were being caught, still the humour was high and the comments very witty.
The match was finally won by the man they call “Crocket” a regular guest on our club matches, fishing peg 6 on the near side of the pool. He fished the majority of the match with corn on the pole at 11metres in open water for an all carp weight of 28lb 15ozs.
In second place came Steve Cox fishing 2+2 on the far side of the pool off peg 15 (the noted reed peg) with 26lb, Steve might have doubled his weight if he hadn’t lost so many fish seeking sanctuary in the reeds when hooked.
In third place was Pete Bullock fishing next of Steve, Pete fished the waggler close in for 13lb 2oz.
Although it was a sunny day it was strange to see that most of the anglers fishing the right hand end of the pool in bright sun saying how warm it was getting as the day progressed and the anglers fishing the left in the shade, dressed like Eskimo’s shivering, unfortunately due to this there where 4 anglers that didn’t feel the need to weigh in.
FULL RESULT.
1st Crocker: - 28lb 15ozs - peg 6
2nd Steve Cox: - 26lb 00oz – peg 15
3rd Pete Bullock: - 13lb 02ozs – peg 14
4th Dave Robinson (guest): – 11lb 00oz – peg 7
5th Rob Parsonage: - 9lb 14ozs – peg 2
6th Steve Lackerby (guest): - 5lb 14ozs – peg 3
7th Darren Bullock: - 4lb 08ozs – peg 17
8th Paul Rennie (guest): - 4lb 02ozs – peg 18
9th Ian Rennie: - 2lb 01oz – peg 1
10th John Male: - 1lb 14ozs – peg 4.
Caught fish but didn’t weigh in
Lou Hughes: - peg 5.
Alan Whitmore: - peg 20.
Kieren Smith: - peg 21.
Colin Parsonage: - peg 22.
On the funny side, it raised a smile when Darren Bullock slipped backwards off this box only for Lou Hughes to shout over to him that he was only trying to copy him but he only gave him a 9.3.
It was interesting to see Steve Cox swinging his landing net around in the reeds trying to get his float free after the fish on the line had burried itself in them, on a more serious note Steve was lucky not to injure himself more when the float came free and shot back.
Ian Rennie again found bramble bush on a number of occasions and the look on Rob Parsonage face was a treat when he pick up his landing net to net a fish only to find that the net had frozen solid.
I would like to thank everyone who braved the cold weather and helped the club to raise, with the extra donations from their winning by Steve Cox & Pete Bullock £95.00.
The nominated charity for this year is the West Midlands Air Ambulance which does a tremendous job in the rural area around Old Arley.
Because the weather last year and this year was uncomfortable and we haven’t see the full potential I will do my best to arrange next year’s charity match earlier.
Again thanks to all who participated.
