It was unfortunate that Coppice Lane did not produce the fishing we have become accustomed to but it certainly produced a cracking doubles competition with only three points separating the first six pairs with overall weight deciding third place..
an Rennie and Michael “Faz” Farrell collected the honour of Double Champions for 2018 with a total score of Six Points. Ian led the way by collecting two points in section Two with 18-9 and it was nice to see him using his pole for a change which obviously made the difference. Faz weighed in a level 15 pound from peg 9 in section one which was enough to secure four points and give him and his partner the winning envelope.
Mary Turner and Steve Cox took the runners-up spot with a total of Eight points, Steve Cox recorded the best weight of the day from the noted peg 22 In section Two, he used paste at 6 meters throughout the match to put Just over 37 pound onto the scales for one point. Mary struggled to Find any decent fish from peg 6 in section One but she managed to weigh in 7-4 which gave her Seven points.
It was calculators out to decided third place with four pairs all finishing with Nine points. After a quick check it was Paul Hotchkiss and Jeff Turner who collected the coin with an overall weight of 41-14 which was helped mainly by Paul who put together a nice bag of fish for 31-14 from peg 7. Jeff like Ian Rennie came off his trusted Feeder and used the pole to weigh in a level 10 pound for Eight points. The other pairings on Nine points, Dave Skinner (who landed a 12-10 Carp) and Bob Hinks, Sean Durrant and Rob Cox, and making up the trio Ian Hughes and Leo McLaughlin.
